2012
So, what is this end-of-the-world business? I almost said "crap"! Ha!
I read in the news last night that the Mayans are tiring of hearing about the supposed end times predicted by their calendar. I have been reading Daniel Pinchbeck's "2012 The Return of Quetzalcoatl" and this talented visionary ventures to interpret a shift in consciousness that is massive, as opposed to a physical cataclysm. Who knows? Polar shift...magnetic field topsy turvy...end of consumerism.....
To me, what is the most interesting part of all is that some people are actually beginning to live as if life will end in 3 years. Has anyone else seen this? Or do I just attract New Age kooks who announce that they're ready to die the way the desert attracts scorpions? The next few years will be very, very, very interesting if this concept is not put to rest. And it won't be put to rest anytime soon. The news story about the Mayans might even be media-spin. Hmmm......
What does this have to do with yoga? Well, if you believe the end is near, you just might love long distance running more than you love your knees! Practicing as though you are working to improve your health and longevity is vastly different from a "preparation for transition to the other side"!
A great book to read is "A Year to Live" by Stephan Levine. We should acknowledge our temporariness always anyway! But at ZanZilla, I will be teaching long-lasting joints and encouraging growth in your physical practice. There will be no doomsday preaching at ZZ! If the concept of linear time ends, and people spend the next few years treasuring each other instead of slaying make-believe dragons, I will be happy to celebrate 2012. And 2013, and 2014, etc.
In texturous love, Zan
